Since the idea for a new commercially-driven Spin-Out company from Cúnamh was conceived, it has always been the intention that any new business would assist the existing business of Cúnamh with its long term financial sustainability, thus helping to maintain essential programmes and services.

Cúnamh had developed database monitoring software to track the progress of the many clients it assisted through its large portfolio of programmes. This was identified as a valuable piece of software of potential use to other community/voluntary organisations. Cúnamh had therefore generated this Intellectual Property but could not engage in any permanent trading activity without compromising its charitable status.

In order to overcome this difficulty, the Cúnamh board and members agreed to the establishment of Cúnamh Trust, which, as a result of special resolutions passed at an AGM, would retain control of the IP generated by Cúnamh, but licence this IP to Cúnamh ICT in order that the IP be used for commercial purposes.  Cúnamh ICT trades as an autonomous private limited liability company, which has rights to licence the IP to customers and engages commercially to raise profits to sustain the business and where possible to contribute towards the sustainability of Cúnamh (the Parent company)
